Miami, Los Angeles, and New York are some of America’s hotspots for millennials looking to travel. But while there’s plenty to do in those cities, there are also plenty of crowds. Instead, consider exploring Salt Lake City, a less-visited but burgeoning city, where a ton of new hotspots targeted toward millennials are popping up. Read on for three places in Salt Lake City you can’t afford to miss.

1. The Atomic Arcade

Just outside of the city center is The Atomic Arcade, one of the few real coin arcades left in the United States. Open until 1-2 a.m. every day except Sunday, the arcade is easy to lose track of time in. The arcade is home to old favorites, such as Tron and Bubble Shooter, and also a variety of new pinball machines that are ultra-cheap to play.

2. Vertical Diner

Ever had vegan comfort food? Didn’t think so. Vertical Diner in Salt Lake City doesn’t sell kale smoothies and raw spiralized carrots; it sells spicy vegan mac and cheese, the vegan, “German Sausage Sub,” and vegan gravy-smothered biscuits. Plus, they deliver if you’re too busy basking in soft hotel sheets.

“I was visiting the city for vacation and decided to try out Vertical Diner (due to a vegan sister). I’m a meat eater and let me tell you… this was the best vegan food I’ve ever had! It was flavorful, nearly mimicked meat, and simply delicious! Definitely will be returning,” said William C. on Yelp.

Salt Lake City is probably not a city you thought of visiting. But if you skip it, you'll be missing out on lots of cool and odd attractions including arcades, vegan diners, and microbreweries (yes, you read that right...microbreweries).

3. Wasatch Brewery

One of the best, if not the best, brewery in Salt Lake City is Wasatch Brewery. Unlike the Salt Lake City stereotype that little drinking is done in this mostly-Mormon state, Wasatch offers tons of top-quality beers on tap, such as the “Polygamy Porter,” and the “Snowbird.” If you’re visiting neighboring Park City for the slopes, you’ll find its sister site that also features bites with its brew, like “The Bird Pizza,” topped with spicy grilled chicken and pesto.

From 2 a.m. arcades to the “Polygamy Porter,” Salt Lake City is breaking its own stereotypes and inviting more millennials to explore and enjoy Utah’s capital. Surrounded by breathtaking mountains and a clean city center, Salt Lake City should be first on your list of places to see in the U.S.
