Camping, in theory, is romantic: snuggle up in sleeping bags under the stars, roast marshmallows over a campfire, and wake up to the song of birds. But what about the bug bites? The sweltering heat or freezing temps? That creepy rustling sound in the bushes? In all reality, camping is more rugged than romance.

Nowadays, glamping—a mixture of glam luxury and camping—is taking over. Whether it’s your first glamping experience or your 50th, here are three great “glamp sites” to visit this summer.

1. Pandora — The World of Avatar

If you’re an Avatar fan, you need to get to Disney World, and stat. But this dreamy glamping spot isn’t open to just anyone. In fact, you can only glamp at Pandora, Disney’s new Avatar land, by winning a contest. Win, and you’ll earn the rights to spend a night in a tent “on the glowing grounds and wake up to sunrise of Pandora’s floating mountains,” according to Travel + Leisure.

Do you long to spend a week away from everything, taking in the great outdoors? Sure, who doesn't? But if the thought of sleeping in a tent just doesn't appeal to you, try glamping--camping with a bit of glam luxury--to get the fresh air without the bug bites and sore hips.

2. Westgate River Ranch

For a glamping spot in Florida that takes a little less luck than Pandora, opt for the Westgate River Ranch in Central Florida. Stay in a safari tent or in a tepee at the authentic dude ranch. Whichever you pick, you’ll enjoy hardwood floors, fancy furniture, and fashionable amenities—all while being surrounded by Florida’s flora and fauna. Plus, the ranch has a ton of activities nearby, including ropes courses, swimming, golfing, and more.

3. The Resort at Paws Up

Located in Greenough, Montana, The Resort at Paws Up is one of the most famous glamping resorts in the U.S., and one of the biggest. At $1,255 per night in the fall, it’s also one of the most expensive. But your costs include meals, a private butler, indoor plumbing, air conditioning, and even heated blankets for when it gets cold. In addition, this spot was where A River Runs Through It was filmed.

While camping has its own charm, sometimes it’s more relaxing and less of a hassle to settle for some glamping instead. Next time you’re in the mood for a glamorous vacation in nature, check out these three top spots.
