There are lots of cruise lines that offer vegetarian and vegan food, although some do it with much more finesse than others. But if you don’t want to be sentenced to pasta and Portobello mushrooms—which, although delicious, don’t make for a complete and balanced diet—you might just try a vegan cruise.
Yes, a vegan cruise. It is a thing. And one of the best cruises will take you on a journey to Norway’s beautiful fjords while offering a 100 percent vegan menu.
That menu will include everything from home-cooked favorites to gourmet delights to delicious desserts, some of which will be prepared by vegan celebrity chefs. As with any cruise ship, there are buffet and sit-down, multi-course meal options. The breakfast buffet, for example, offers made-to-order hot foods as well as the standard fare of fruits and baked goods. And, of course, the cruise will have all the little frills that make a cruise such a fun vacation. Its bars will even serve vegan beers, wines, and mixed drinks.
The vegan cruise also offers high-end, 100-percent vegan personal care products such as shampoo, shower gel, and hand soap. The ship’s staff will also be able to offer vegan recommendations for the cities the ship will visit.
Cruise & Maritime Voyages is offering the trip, and it includes more than just plant-based food. There will also be wellness programs onboard including yoga and Pilates classes and activities such as vegan cooking and baking demonstrations, theatre shows, live music—basically, all the standard cruise-ship fare but with a vegan twist. Guest speakers on vegan and healthy lifestyles, including Melanie Joy, Julieanna Hever, Wendy Turner Webster, and Dr. Michael Greger, will also make an appearance on the cruise.
The cruise is operated in conjunction with Vegan Travel, and the company says it’s the first ocean cruise exclusively for vegans.
The 2017 vegan cruise to Norway will take place from September 25 through October 2. There are still a few cabins left as of this writing. The ship will depart from London Tilbury and take travelers to the beautiful fjords of Norway, with ports of call at Eidfjord, Flam, Geiranger, Hellesyit, and Bergen.
